Manchanabele Escapade – II

The water was very tempting but our research on the place restrained us from jumping right in. The lake has had had its share of a few accidents. The lake bed is supposed to have quick sand resulting in a few accidents. So we had to control our emotions and be content at just sitting by the lake and dipping our feet in the cold water. After spending a few hours lazing by the lake, posing for snaps and chit chatting we made our way back to Bangalore. But we did make up our mind to revisit this place soon…

Manchanabele Escapade – I

After spending quite a few days researching on which place to visit for a days outing, we figured that Manchanabele Dam would be the best option that would suit all the four of us who were looking out for a day’s retreat. We had quite a few of conditions that needed to be satisfied before we selected a place. Condition 1: not very far from Bangalore, courtesy Mr. S. Condition 2: Not a rough terrain that required trekking, courtesy Mrs. S. Condition 3:  Should be a place where you get birds and should be nice for photography, courtesy hubby dear.

Mannavanur, the Hidden Treasure

A desperate need to find something new in Kodaikanal landed us with the info about Mannavanur Lake. Situated around 30-40 Km from the main city among the lush green valley, this place is a must visit place for all travelers interested in traveling to places off the beaten path. It is also known as the Bison-Valley, a beautiful virgin stretch of nature at an altitude of 7000 ft above the sea level. We booked our cab from the city’s taxi stand near the petrol pump. A little bit of bargaining with the driver landed us with a decent deal of

Ranganthittu Bird Sanctuary

Bird watching trip it was going to be. I really was not sure what to expect from it. I had not had much time to search the net about the place to get much detail about it. I was just told that it was a bird sanctuary and going by my previous experiences with all kinds of sanctuaries, I did not expect much from the place. In any case since all of the others were excited to go, I too teamed in. It was decided that we go there on a Saturday so that we could take rest on Sunday

Bangalore Palace – Beware !!!!

Visiting Bangalore Palace? Beware!!! It had been a long wish of mine to visit the much talked about Bangalore Palace. Wish got fulfilled when my hubby got the opportunity to shoot a Pre Bridal shoot for a friend of ours. So one Saturday morning we all headed out for the place. The tickets are priced at Rs 225 per person and a camera charge of around Rs 600. The building looks magnificent from outside but once inside you will not find much to catch your interest. In fact if you try to take a picture of the palace from outside

I-India Resort -Ooty

We had visited this resort during May 2012. Take the right turn at the junction which leads to Sagar Resorts on the Conoor road and a few meters down that road and will lead you to  the property. The place was quite a cozy little place with very helpful staff. The cottage is well places with a lovely view of the valley in front of it and being far from the maddening crowd of the Ooty town, is quite a welcome relief for the guests. The rooms are clean and spacious  with all basic amenities provided. But a few improvements

King’s Cliff – A Residence Truely Fit for the Kings

Wondering where to stay in Ooty? Try out this quaint little cottage situated in the fringes of the busy town. King’s Cliff nestled in a hill albeit far away from the madding crowd, literally. The property belongs to the Little earth Group and you could book your rooms from their site. We had visited to this resort about 2 years back and thanks to my hubby who had suggested this place. An auto from the bus stand would take you to the hotel. You could ask for a pickup from the resort itself. The auto charges are fixed so you

Puttu – The Traditional Keralite Breakfast

Visiting Kerala and not having the famous Puttu for breakfast would certainly be a crime in itself. Well I had committed this crime a number of times but this time I was not going to repeat the same. I was truly amazed with the taste and texture of this simple yet fulfilling dish. Puttu is made by slowly adding water to ground rice until the correct texture is achieved. It is then spiced, formed and steamed with layers of grated coconut. Puttu is generally cooked in a metal puttu kutti vessel with two sections. The lower section holds water and

Wood House Resort – Varkala

Visiting Varkala and wondering where to stay? Confused or spoilt for choice? Well here’s a suggestion that you could consider. Wood House Resort. Yes you heard(or rather read) me right!! Amazing location and very very wallet friendly. Situated on the far end of the North Cliff, this is the last resort in the line. But trust me the view is one of the best. Far from the crowd and the shops this place would certainly get a thumps up for the location. The restaurant attached to the resort is run by few people from the North East India. Very friendly
