God Gave A Blessing Called MOTHER

The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world -William Ross Wallace Over the 2 years of motherhood that I have enjoyed, I have really felt one can’t be a good mom unless and until she yells and shouts and sometimes raises her hand at the kid. I hated this when my mom did that to me and envied my sister since as elder one I had to take her quota of scolding and beating too. But when my little one began crawling and walking, I had to start off with all that I really hated as a kid.

Years Have Passed by…

A personal note by Sampurna Majumder Years have passed by… …you had promised a rendezvous. A rendezvous between you and me. A much awaited rendezvous, which I longed for…. The starry night with a silver moon shining brightly reminded me of you. I stared at the vast sky, trying to figure out the finite in you in its infinity. Every night when my eyes chanced upon a shooting star, I closed my eyes and prayed silently. Prayed for you, prayed for me, prayed for us and prayed for a meeting with you. You had promised to meet me at our

My Long Lost Mornings

Fluffy eyes refusing to open up. Twisting in the bed, my head still buried in the pillow, another nudging at my thighs, early mornings always made me languish. The chirping of the birds signaled the sun’s first kiss was about to touch the earth. Clattering of the utensils at the roadside tea stall meted out household melodies. Somewhere in the distant someone was heard humming a tune, soothing the ears. I could hear my mother’s hushed footsteps heading towards the kitchen. In a minute’s time I could feel her hands caressing my forehead. She would do that every morning.

Happy Birthday Sachin!

I am always a little bit at risk when writing about Tendulkar. So before I am lynched, let me hastily mention that one thing I admire about the chappie is longevity. Quite a testament to fitness and desire. Whether the results are on par, is a different thing. Tendulkar halts traffic like nothing else in India, barring political rallies or cows on Delhi roads. About nine out of 10 people think he is the God of cricket (if not God himself), an accolade which evaporates every time he doesn’t perform. Then he is compared to mortals (“X also didn’t score,

Bless You!

Bless you my child, bless you my son. Today you are a boy…soon you will grow up dear one. Bless you with strong hands to help anyone in need, to work hard, to give more, the poor, old and sick to feed. Influence of Music on the Inner World

Shwetha Kalyanasundaram talks of the beauty of musical chords and how history and the present have been proof of the way music impacts our inner world All our ancient treatises on music propound that it is a gift mankind has been bestowed with from Divinity above; and that its bliss is made available to everyone as freely as air, water and the sunrays. These great texts on music also enjoin it upon man to imbibe this great power of music and to enrich his spiritual power and to purge his body, mind and soul of all impurities that might be

That Irony Called LIFE!!!

Ankush Kumar in this piece tries to decipher the cronies of life in a humorous manner. Read it to have a laugh The biggest tragedy in the world today is ‘birth of a soul’ and ironically the one that is deeply ingrained in our hearts is ‘death’. The journey though from cradle to grave probably has the best comic elements to justify the biggest blunder GOD executed that was ‘giving birth to mankind’. The day ‘GOD’ repeats his mistake, he is being doing for centuries and a soul comes in the form of a ‘human being’ (one error too many),

Himmatwala: Bum Pe Lat for the Makers

So basically Sajid Khan picked up an already bad film, added pathetic twists to it and made it crass. I was warned by my mom before watching this one. She had seen the one made in the 80’s and said it was bad taste. I though, being me, wanted to experience anything before making a value judgement. How I wish I would have taken the sane advice and avoided this ridiculously preposterous flick. The need for a comic flick in today’s stressed out world is totally understandable but torture in the name of comedy isn’t. For the first time in
