Director: Brad Peyton
Stars: Dwayne Johnson, Carla Gugino, Alexandra Daddario
Plot: Set during a record-breaking 9.6 magnitude earthquake along California’s fault line, the only thing San Andreas has is CGI mayhem. Johnson plays Ray, a helicopter pilot with L.A. Fire and Rescue. Barely two minutes in, he and his cocky crew are introduced to us as they pluck a teenager from her car after it has gone off the road and is hanging from a cliff. The situation is dangerous, but the chopper crew’s breezy banter in the face of death keeps things light. That to me worked for a beginning.
My expectation were high but the film left me disappointed. This is another high budget hollywood flick where US is under attack and our hero tries to save his family.
There are many things I didn’t like in this movie. Nothing was new, not the story nor the script. The CGI was good but then Hollywood works on CGI so there should not be anyone who talks about that.
The 3d effect of this movie was poor too and I didn’t find a single moment where it amazed me. The feeling was that of a 2d movie wearing a 3d glass.
They tried to create a bigger experience than 2012, but unfortunately there wasn’t a need for another 2012.
Worth watching: Yes if you don’t have an amazing plan this weekend.
