One of the renowned restaurants in Kolkata, Peter Cat has managed to survive both – fire and ravages of time. It remains as popular as it used to be way back in the 1960s when it opened for the public, making it one of the oldest restaurants in the city. The interiors are so designed that they will take you back to the olden times. Unfolding history with waiters dressed in Rajasthani styled attire that too red n colour creates a unique juxtaposition of the Indian and the western. Legends have it that this famous joint was named after a renowned cat named Peter who lived in the Lord’s cricket ground from 1952 to 1964. Definitely a great place for a cricket crazy city.
Another thing worth noting is the menu that comes in the form of a cat’s head. It does create some curiosity. And now, when it comes to the food, needless to say you would find some of the best here. Of course, I have to mention the chelo kebab. Two minced mutton kebabs and one chicken kebab, served with rice and an egg, it’s legendary amongst the residents of Kolkata. Once at Peter Cat, you have to have this delicacy. There’s no missing out on the chelo kabab. If you love non-vegetarian then opt for the chicken sizzler. On the other hand, the Peter Cat House Special sizzler served with bacon sausages is equally lip-smacking. While you can choose your drinks to go with your kebabs and sizzlers, you can also save some sweet tooth for desserts like tutti fruit or house special ice cream.
Once in Kolkata, do remember to consume at least one meal at Peter Cat.
