China and Pandas are synonymous. Home to many Panda preservation sanctuaries, China has been making headlines for getting these bears off the ‘Endangered Zone’. China had been making efforts to save Panda but now this Panda will save China.

Yes. China built a solar farm shaped like a Giant Panda and it is called Panda Power Plant. This plant situated in Datong will stretch 1500 acres on completion.

This power plant has been made by China Merchants New Energy Group working closely with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). This project is an effort to create awareness among youth in China about clean energy as per a statement released by UNDP. The group has plans to build more panda-shaped solar plants across China in the future.

Talking about the specification, the first phase that has a capacity of 50 Megawatt began delivering power to a grid in the areas of north-west China. According to the company, The Panda Plant is estimated to produce 3.2 billion kilowatt-hours of solar energy in the next 25 years. It is believed that this power plant will reduce carbon emissions by 2.74 million tons replacing the conventional method of using coal for electricity generation leading to eliminating pollution due to burning millions of tons of coal.

China has been among the top polluted countries in the world. It has started taking this global issue seriously and making efforts to reduce the contamination of the air. It is encouraging and implementing clean and renewable sources of energy for power generation, contributing to the initiative of reducing the pollution level.
